# Contributing to Open Transit Information

Open Transit Information is in an early development phase. Current technical contribution requirements are maintained in the [public repository policy](https://github.com/uningeniero/opentransitinformation/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md).

## Contribution licensing

- Code: **Apache-2.0**. Specifications, styles and documentation: **CC-BY-4.0**.
- There is no CLA. Every commit must include a **DCO** sign-off (Developer Certificate of Origin, https://developercertificate.org/):

  ```
  git commit -s -m "Describe the change"
  ```

  This sign-off certifies that you have the right to contribute under the project licence.
- Include `SPDX-License-Identifier: Apache-2.0` in new code files or `SPDX-License-Identifier: CC-BY-4.0` in documentation.
- Do not copy GPL/AGPL project code. If such tools are needed, invoke them as separate external processes.

## Specification changes

The governance draft calls for open RFCs in `docs/rfc/` for changes to the OTI standard, GTFS-Carto and Semantic Transit SVG, with a public comment period before merging. These proposed arrangements do not replace the current technical contribution policy linked above.

## Language and conduct

English is the primary language of documentation, specifications, comments, examples, research and internal handoffs. Other languages may be reviewed secondary translations. Keep official names, real network data, technical identifiers, source quotations and third-party originals intact.
