Data with a visual meaning.
A line code, short map label, interchange hierarchy or schematic geometry can be useful in more than one publication. GTFS-Carto explores how to describe and share those editorial decisions.
The draft reuses source identifiers so a stop can remain the same stop across a geographic map, a diagram and a line view. It is a proposal under development, not an adopted GTFS extension.
A companion to the source.
Other proposed tables cover hubs, frequency classes, products and published schematic geometries. The complete package, validator and cross-format mapping need implementation and testing.
Publication context
Version, licence, source fingerprint and validity are proposed in carto_feed_info.txt.
Line identity
carto_routes.txt describes map codes, presentation colours and related editorial properties.
Stops and labels
carto_stops.txt and language tables explore short labels, hierarchy and multilingual presentation.
An illustrative line record.
This small record illustrates field names from the draft. It is not a complete or validated GTFS-Carto package. The Bilbao metropolitan network uses a separate, package-generated input with source provenance.
